Brazil is a significant topic in Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 of the National Curriculum. The Embassy of Brazil in London has produced a number of resources in the form of pupil activities/activity sheets and teacher's notes. These up to date resources may be freely downloaded at the following link:-
Four School Workshops and Assembly presentation:-"I just wanted to thank you again for a great day. All the feedback I've received has been positive and everyone thoroughly enjoyed working with you. I know my own class were enthusiastic about your demonstration in assembly and I could see them moving to the rhythm! I thought it was particularly good for everyone to learn more about Brazilian culture and dance as this area is not always well represented in educational workshops."
Susan Morris, Walsall Wood Primary School, Brownhills, Wallsall.
Early Years Samba Dance Workshop:-"We had a fabulous day learning to samba dance at Richard Bonington Nursery. The children loved moving to the music and Suely made sure it was suitable for everyone to join in while making it a challenge for those children who could manage some harder steps. The session was full of energy, highly motivating and just long enough to keep the children interested. This was a great way of matching movement to music while learning about another culture."
Dr Jill Gaunt, Nursery Teacher, Richard Bonington Primary and Nursery School, Nottingham.
International Inspiration is a collaborative programme which uses the power of sport to transform the lives of millions of children and young people of all abilities, in schools and communities across the world, particularly in developing countries.
In March 2008, teachers from twelve schools in Nottinghamshire travelled to Brazil where their schools entered into partnerships with schools in the States of Alagoas and Pernambuco. The aim of the visit was to focus on social and educational development in and through PE and sport. That visit was reciprocated in October 2008, when representatives of twelve Brazilian schools visited Nottinghamshire. Suely Moreira of Dance Brazil and her husband participated in that programme by leading a school breakfast club where both children and teachers explored the language and culture of Brazil.
Dance Brazil is happy to continue supporting this programme and to providing further in-school experiences of Brazilian culture and dance.
